Our Mission
We work to:
Restore and protect vital spawning and rearing habitat
Support scientific monitoring and research initiatives
Advocate for responsible fisheries management
Engage local communities, anglers, and youth in conservation efforts
Partner with organizations committed to wild salmon recovery
promote sustainable sportfishing activities via responsible and conservation-minded angling practices.
Through collaboration and stewardship, we strive to maintain a healthy, self-sustaining salmon population in the Nepisiguit watershed and support responsible fly fishing for the next generation.
Why It Matters
Wild Atlantic salmon are more than a species — they are a symbol of our region’s natural heritage. A healthy salmon population reflects a healthy river ecosystem.
By protecting salmon, we protect:
Cold, clean water resources
Native wildlife and biodiversity
Local outdoor traditions and sustainable angling
Economic opportunities connected to river stewardship
The future of the Nepisiguit depends on informed action today.
Get Involved
Conservation is a shared responsibility. Whether you are an angler, landowner, business, or community member, your support makes a difference.

Together, we can ensure the Nepisiguit remains a thriving salmon river for generations to come.
Since 1976: Safeguarding the Future of Nepisiguit Salmon
The Nepisiguit Salmon Assoc. was formed 50 years ago by a group of concerned fishermen after a runoff from the former Brunswick Mines decimated the salmon stock in the Nepisiguit River. It has been operating since then and has a membership of approximately 180 members. It is overseen by a board of directors which presently has 12 members. We are a not-for-profit organization and 100% of our annual income is from memberships, private donations, funding partners such as Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF), Wildlife Trust Fund, Foundation for the Conservation of Atlantic Salmon.
In the summer we hire 4-5 employees through SEED and Canada Summer Jobs and monies we raise to preform work on the Nepisiguit and 5 other rivers in the Nepisiguit area. This work mostly consists of electrofishing to quantify fish stocks and species and water quality testing to ensure healthy river systems. We also collect water temperatures for DFO which is in turn used to enact river closures to protect salmon. We work closely with DFO and DELG on this monitoring and analysis of the data collected.
The group continues to work closely with organizations like the Pabineau First Nation (PFN) for monitoring, electrofishing, and conservation initiatives.
Any of the work preformed and reports sent are at no cost to the recipients. This work is directed and overseen by board members with help and direction from the ASF and other government departments.
